DELIVERY DRIVER/YARD OPERATIVE

JOB DESCRIPTION

HOURS OF WORK:

Monday to Friday 7.30am – 4.30pm
Saturday 8am – 12.30pm (Sept to Feb), Saturday 8am – 2pm (March to Aug)
Saturdays worked on a rota system, paid at 1 ½ times basic pay

MAIN DUTIES:

Responsible for collection and delivery of goods to and from our premises. Multi-drop deliveries. Manual and fork lift truck loading required, training provided although experience with fork lift trucks would be desirable. Liaising with customers on delivery, unloading using HIAB facilities or manual unload. Receiving payments from customers as required including cash, dealing with card payments by telephone and portable card terminals. Completion of digital tachographs plus relevant health & safety paperwork relating to vehicle inspection and maintenance of 7.5 tonne, 16 tonne and transit vehicles essential as required. Ability to follow delivery/collection paperwork essential. An ability to read both metric and imperial measurements essential. A good, polite manner with customers and work colleagues essential. Other ad hoc duties as required such as loading customers in the Sales Yard.

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES:

Experience of driving 7.5 tonne vehicle/tachograph miles essential. 16 tonne vehicle experience desirable but not essential. Digital tacho required. Good timekeeping essential. Reliability, ability to work under pressure, organisational skills, flexibility, conscientious nature, pleasant disposition and good communication skills essential as the job involves liaising with members of the public. Must be able to work on own initiative and as part of a team. Sense of humour also an advantage!

QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential - Clean driving licence, CPC certificate, HIAB licence, digital tachograph, previous delivery experience, acceptable standard of English and Maths, good knowledge of local area and ability to use A-Z, road maps and Sat Nav.

Desirable - HGV Class 2 and Fork Lift Truck experience/certificate of training.

HEALTH & SAFETY:

All staff must undergo induction and Health & Safety training as required. Steel toe capped boots essential. All staff must wear high visibility vests provided, especially when loading/unloading vehicles. Safe working practices are in effect including awareness of working environment including strict safety guidelines.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Lawnswood Fencing operates a no-smoking policy which includes all Company vehicles. All new staff subject to a 3 month probationary period. All vehicles are fitted with tracking devices with forward facing cameras in heavy goods vehicles. Camera monitoring system installed on the premises. Successful applicant expected to undergo DBS check.

RATES OF PAY:

Basic starting wage of between £10.00 - £12.00 per hour dependent upon experience/ qualifications etc. Wages reviewed once training and trial period is completed. Wages are paid direct by BACS into bank account on the last Friday of each month unless otherwise stated. All payments are made one month in arrears.

HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT:

29 days per year including Bank Holidays. Some days are designated by the Company. Bank Holidays are worked on a rota system. See Employee Handbook for full details.

The first 12 months are based on 1 / 12th of your entitlement for each full completed month worked.

FORK LIFT DRIVER / YARD OPERATIVE – JOB DESCRIPTION

HOURS OF WORK:

Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm
Saturdays 8am – 2pm worked on a rota system, paid at 1 ½ times basic pay 20 minute morning break, 30 minute lunch break, 15 minute afternoon break

MAIN DUTIES TO INCLUDE:

Experience of 2 ½ tonne diesel counter balance fork lift trucks essential.  Working outside on a busy yard.  Loading retail and trade customers using forklifts plus a degree of manual handling of goods on and off the fork lifts and into vehicles as required.  Preparing lifts for customers and our own fitting teams.  Unloading incoming deliveries/arctic vehicles.  Dipping fence panels.  Keeping the yard area tidy plus general labouring duties as required.  Working off both typed and written loading notes.  An ability to read and document both metric and imperial measurements essential.  Vehicle inspection sheets to be completed plus basic Health & Safety check lists.  Must be a team player but able to work on own initiative.  Must be trustworthy, polite and have a friendly nature.

FENCER’S MATE / LABOURER - JOB DESCRIPTION

HOURS OF WORK:

Monday to Friday 7.30am – 4.30pm
Any overtime paid at 1 ½ times basic pay including occasional Saturdays       Flexible 30 minute lunch break, 20 minute morning & 15 minute afternoon break

MAIN DUTIES TO INCLUDE:

Working with an experienced Fence Erector on site carrying out domestic, commercial and site work.  Loading and unloading materials, carrying out materials on site, mixing concrete, digging holes, using both hand tools and breakers, stihl saws, drills etc.  Working off written job sheets.  A weekly timesheet to be filled in with the Fence Erector and a clock in card to be completed.  Knowledge of both metric and imperial measurements desirable.  Vehicle inspection sheets to be completed plus basic Health & Safety check lists.  Must be a team player but able to work on own initiative.  Must be trustworthy, polite and have a friendly nature.  Scope to develop into Trainee/Assistant Fencer.
